    Honey bee
Photograph of honey bees, (Apis mellifera), taken during a trip to New Zealand between 16th June -16th July 2006 to carry out conservation work. The beehive, was observed and also how the bees function. There are many worker bees with one queen bee. It was interesting to see how the bees put excess pollen into the cells, make it into honey and then seal off the cells by covering them with wax. After observing the various tasks the bees carry out, it was possible to see differences between them. For example tasks vary according to the age of the bees. Taken using a Kodak Easy Share CX7530 camera (5.0 mega pixels).

Review of A-level Chemistry content 2010
This document is a review of the content of the A-level Chemistry specifications from the main UK exam boards (Scottish highers not included - sorry!). These A-level specifications commenced teaching in September 2008. Students entering university in 2010 will have studied the new A-levels, and this document is intended to help academics to identify what students will have covered. The document also contains a summary of discussions which took place between teachers and academics at our annual Post-16 teachers' day in June 2010 regarding the nature of the 2010 intake and their capabilities in chemistry. Please inform us of any errors or typos that you spot and we'll update the document. LAST UPDATE at 13:15 on Aug 27th 2010.

e-Research Methods Theme 8 Writing Your Research Proposal
A good research proposal provides a clear research question within the context of yours chosen research area. It should be presented with the full range of background relating to the topic, unambiguous aims and objectives, and a research methodology. It is assumed that a pre-requisite to completing this core theme is that you have already identified your research question, have conducted your literature review, identified how you will collect and analyse your data, and have planned how you will complete your research, either through discussions with your Masters/PhD supervisors, or the completion of the five core themes on this module ('Literature review', 'Choosing your research topic', 'Project Management' 'Collecting data' and 'Data analysis'.)

e-Research Methods Theme 7 Data Analysis
In this theme you will work through a series of texts and activities and reflect on your view of research and the process of analysis of data and information. Most activities are supported by textual or audio material and are there to stimulate your thinking in a given area. The purpose of this theme is to help you gain a general overview of the main approaches to research design. Although the theme comprises two main sections, one on quantitative research and the other on qualitative research, this is purely to guide your study. The two approaches may be viewed as being part of a continuum with many research studies now incorporating elements of both styles. Eventually you will need to choose a research approach or methodology that will be practical, relevant, appropriate, ethical, of good quality and effective for the research idea or question that you have in mind.

e-Research Methods Theme 5 Project Management
The aims of this theme are: •to identify and develop personal attributes that enable postgraduate students to manage a research project to the correct standard and to complete it on time; •to enable postgraduate students to plan and organise their research project in order to successfully reach their full potential in their chosen postgraduate degree; •to enable postgraduate students to apply appropriate time management skills to the planning of their research project; •to identify study skills and resource management strategies that can benefit postgraduate students to effectively organise and research their chosen field; •to develop team work skills within the postgraduate cohort studying the Project Management core theme.

e-Research Methods Theme 2 Getting Started as a Researcher
In this theme you will work through a series of texts and activities and reflect on your view of research as well as the skills you are developing. Most activities are supported by textual or audio material and are there to stimulate your thinking in a given area. Through this theme you will have a broad understanding of what is expected of you, the skills you will be developing, the different approaches to research and the importance of developing a clear and mutually understood relationship with your supervisor.
