Abstract:
Public Sector Information is considered to play a fundamental role in the growth of the knowledge economy and improvements in society. Given the difficulty in publishing and maintaining all available data, due to budget constraints, institutions need to select which data to publish, giving priority to data most likely to generate social and economic impact. However, there is currently a lack of decision-support tools to helps public sector data publishers to evaluate datasets on the light of their particular goals and policies. In this seminar, an approach suggesting the dataset categories with most potential impact, based on the impact of already published datasets in Open Source Software projects and taking into account the objectives of the open data portals will be presented.
Short Bio of the Speaker:
Álvaro E. Prieto is member of the Quercus Software Engineering Group and lecturer of Computer Languages and Systems at the University of Extremadura (Spain). He received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Extremadura in 2013. His research interests include open data, linked open data, ontologies and workflows. He is currently involved in various R&D&I projects.
